Best Actor – Silver Linings Playbook (2012)
Best Supporting Actor – American Hustle (2013)
Best Actor – American Sniper (2014)
Best Picture – American Sniper (2014) (he’s a producer)
Bradley Cooper is the first actor in fifteen years to be nominated for an Oscar in a Best Picture nominee for three straight years.
Best Actor in Silver Linings Playbook, Best Supporting Actor in American Hustle, and Best Actor in American Sniper.
The last person to do this was Russell Crowe, who had three Best Actor nominations (and one win) for The Insider (1999), Gladiator (2000), and A Beautiful Mind (2001).
The difference being Crowe won for one of those performances and two of those movies won Best Picture.
This is the sixth time an actor/actress has had three straight nominations in a Best Picture nominated film (William Hurt, Gary Cooper, Spencery Tracy, Bette Davis), but all of the them won at least once for their performances. Assuming Cooper loses Best Actor this year (likely to Keaton or Redmayne) and American Sniper loses Best Picture (likely to Boyhood), he could be a first to go 0/3 and have the movies that he’s in go 0/3.
