In Film photography, color balance was related to the chemical composition of the film itself. For a long time color film in the United States was calibrated in order to highlight Caucasian skin tones. When Jean-Luc Godard was asked to make a film about Mozambique, he refused to use Kodachrome film, accusing the certain film to be ‘racist’
